Antonine Arboretum

The Antonine Arboretum is still an aspiration for the village!

We have had consultations, we have had a day in the field with various activities. We spent time with the children at Gavinburn Primary School, we also held an exhibition of all things Roman in the Napier Hall.

We had a landscape designer plan out the Arboretum and we’re in talks with the Canal College regarding proposed developments. Then we heard about the dangerous  railway bridge and to cap it all we had a pandemic! All activities came to a halt.

But nothing good comes without effort...

We will need lots of community support to plant the proposed community orchard and woodland! Roll on 2023!

A Walk Through the Past: Memories of Old Kilpatrick

A Walk Through the Past: Memories of Old Kilpatrick, from 1940s to present day

Testimonies of a number of residents of Old Kilpatrick have been recorded and these, along with other historical data, have been used to create an audiowalk, a website and an illustrated booklet.

The project also created a new oral history archive which will be added to the existing oral history collections belonging to West Dunbartonshire Council Libraries and Museums.

We have created a website for the project where we published the results of the interviews, instructions for the audiowalks and other information we gathered during the project. Please visit the website for more information: http://www.awalkthroughthepast.org.uk (currently offline - we are working on reinstating it shortly)

The project may be over but we can still collect your memories! If you would like to contribute, please get in touch with us. A volunteer will arrange to meet you to explain what's required from you. We will then publish your stories on the website and share the with the local library archive.

March 2023 update: we may be looking at running a similar project, or an extension of the very successful oral history project, in the near future. If you'd like to get involved, please This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
